Caring for your Pearl Jewellery
Jewellery is precious and often sentimental too, so it’s important to look after your precious pieces. Today we are sharing with you tips on how to keep your Pearl Jewellery looking its best.
Pearls have been coveted by Royalty and Fashion Icons such as Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn making them a timeless Jewellery piece every girl should own. From the Pearl Strands to Pearl Stud or Pearl Drop Earrings even modern day celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Rhianna and the Duchess of Cambridge are also seen wearing these timeless Jewellery pieces.
Pearls are a timeless gem which deserves special Care. Pearl Jewellery should always be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off when you get home. As they are porous your Pearls will absorb the products around them so you need to ensure that you avoid contact with Perfume, Hairspray, Hand cream and makeup.
Wipe your cultured pearls after each wear, especially in Summer as this can affect your pearls’ lustre.
Avoid wearing your Pearls in the Ocean, Swimming Pool or in the Shower. Always remove your Pearls before exercising or playing sports. This is due to the fact that a lot of Pearl Jewellery, like Stud Earrings are glued onto their earring post and these exposures can cause the glue to loosen. Pearl Strands have been strung with a thread that when exposed to water can weaken the thread.
Store your pearls separately to prevent them from scratching. Either store them in their own box or place a soft cloth between them.
Avoid bleach, detergents and other harsh chemicals, including hand sanitiser, touching your pearls. These harsh chemicals can damage and change your pearls colour and lustre.
Check your Pearl strand for weak points to prevent the loss of any of your pearls. Pearl strands should be checked every 12 months to ensure they are safe. If you notice any thread you should take these to your local jeweller for assessment as they are likely to need rethreading. We recommend that you have your Pearls restrung every 2 years to keep them looking their best.
Proper care for your pearls can make all the difference to their shine and overall condition over the years.
