The birthstone for the month of July is Ruby. 

Ruby comes from the Latin word Ruber which means Red.

Ruby is one of the most coveted coloured gemstones and has long been associated as the king of coloured gemstones in the history books, as it was believed that it will bring the wearer the promise of wealth, success and health.

Those lucky enough to be born in the month of July can claim this beautiful rich deep red gemstone as their birthstone. Rubies are said to symbolise Wisdom, passion, romance and strength.

Being the birthstone for July, Ruby is also used to celebrate 15th and 40th Wedding Anniversaries.

Ruby is made of the mineral corundum, just like a sapphire, however, when corundum has chromium mixed in it brings the deep rich red hues to create Ruby.

Rubies are a strong gemstone with a rating of 9 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness.

To keep your Ruby jewellery in pristine condition, you can clean them with warm soapy water and a soft baby toothbrush.
